In 2014, mobile traffic at eBay was largely driven by “mission shopping”—users arriving with a specific intent, completing a task, and leaving. As part of a small, focused team, I helped propose and shape a redesign aimed at increasing mobile engagement beyond these transactional moments. Our approach introduced a carousel-based navigation system that surfaced curated content, making it easier for users to browse, discover, and explore. This shift encouraged more serendipitous interaction, transforming the experience from purely task-driven to one that invited ongoing engagement.
